Women as Lovers” by Elfride Jelineck was my first show directed within Theater Institute of Theater Arts GITIS. It is based on a modernist feminist Austrian novel. Telling the story of a girl who decided to be no more than a woman. For me it was a theatre piece about a choice between being yourself and conforming to society.
In collaboration with stage design student Eugenia Rzheznikova we managed to get our school to produce the set. This play had a long life after being staged in GITIS. Actors and I had to take care of the set and props and bring those ourselves to every new location.
